When an ion exchange is applied for water softening, it will replace the calcium and magnesium ions in the water with other ions, such as sodium or potassium. The exchanger 1225-0 is added to a reservoir containing a salt of chloride, such as NaCl or KCL (sodium or potassium chloride).
